October already.
Without us knowing where the summer has gone, here come the long sobs of the violins of autumn that so wounded Paul Verlaine's heart. With them, the very particular colors of a season that is romantic for some, melancholic for others. Its pale dawns, its hurried twilights and its air laboriously trying to be fresh. Its pants too, great gravediggers of summer shorts, to which we dedicate this article.
What are fall pants?
The question is legitimate, and the answer we submit to you is the following: here, autumn trousers will be considered any legwear that can be worn between October and December (and longer if you like) without you being too cold or too hot. In other words, mid-season trousers suitable for temperatures ranging from 5°C to 20°C. It is unlikely that the definition will make it into the Dictionnaire de l'Académie française, but it will at least allow us to introduce you to those at Hast who can claim this title.
Everything is matter
Pants that keep you warm when it's cool without making you sweat when the mercury rises are not easy to find. These properties require specific materials, i.e. the combination of special fibers and a particular weave. In our humble opinion, here are the ones that stand out:
- corduroy. A little marvel of inventiveness, it evokes a complex technique where two layers of fabric are assembled by a warp thread which will then be cut with a razor . It is this which, cut flush, will give the velvet its characteristic smoothness.
- moleskin. A heavy satin weave obtained by a very dense weave, moleskin is a silky-feel fabric whose name - derived from the English “mole skin” - literally means “mole skin”. Sometimes covered with a soft coating, it comes straight from the French workwear wardrobe, particularly appreciated for its robustness and natural water repellency.
- Flannel. Like velvet and moleskin, flannel is first and foremost a way of weaving. This involves lightly scraping the fabric to ruffle the material and give it a felted and downy appearance. When uncombed in this way, the fibers trap more air and provide a more insulating fabric - in addition to being particularly soft.
Corduroy , moleskin, flannel: these are the three techniques that, in our opinion, offer the most suitable fabrics for the autumn weeks. But you still have to choose the right materials to weave them. This is where two natural fibers ideal for the season come into play: wool and cotton.
Resistant, insulating, hypoallergenic, biodegradable, thermoregulating and self-cleaning, the first is simply essential below 15°C. A natural raw material, it has nothing to envy the best technical fibers, which makes it an ally of choice to get through the fall.
For its part, cotton remains the 4-season material par excellence. Particularly soft, very absorbent and easy to maintain, you can count on it to dress up mid-season pants, provided you choose a sufficiently thick fabric.
Hast Fall Pants
With that introduction out of the way, let's get down to business with the presentation of the Hast pants that will give you beautiful legs this fall. From the most casual to the most formal, here are the five long-awaited protagonists:
-
A peaceful version of the famous American army cargo, our military pants are crafted in 100% cotton moleskin woven in France by Maison Velcorex. With a density of 310 gr/m2, this fabric promises impressive thickness, robustness and texture. A straight cut, patch pocket and side adjusters finish the job: you have a piece of character. On top, you can choose moderation with a sober and elegant sweater , or go all out with an equally bold work jacket
-
Versatile as you want, our navy blue pure virgin wool trousers rely on the properties of their raw material and their 330 gr/m2 to ensure optimal comfort. Their fitted fit and neat finishes make them a great partner, as comfortable with a shirt and a work jacket as with a polo neck sweater .
- For its part, the double pleated trousers in ecru velvet ingeniously mobilize two worlds. On the one hand, its thick 100% cotton corduroy evokes the thickness and generosity of casual pieces; on the other, its construction borrows from the art of tailoring its long leg pleats, its side button placket and its two pairs of pleats. The best of both worlds, for a half-casual, half-sartorial reference that will delight lovers of relaxed elegance. Another advantage: this double lineage allows it to work with very cozy pieces - like our rugby polo in fleece - and others more formal, like this sage work jacket .
-
Our double pleated trousers in grey cotton moleskin play on the same tailored construction but are adorned with a more formal material. The originality of these trousers lies in this fabric which, at first glance, could be mistaken for a wool flannel. Woven in Italy exclusively for Hast, it displays subtle chalk stripes that bring elegance and verticality to this dazzling model. Wear without moderation, preferably with a beautiful wool jacket .
- Loosely inspired by the Gurkha, this creation with a sartorial aesthetic is made in a wool flannel woven in Italy , on the Maison Marzotto side. With its side adjusters, its straight cut and its high waist, it will seduce lovers of classic elegance. A strong piece if ever there was one, it will not tolerate just any company: formal shirts , ties and dress jackets will be appropriate to exploit its full potential.
The final word
Contrary to what we might think, finding a good pair of pants for fall is no easy feat. You have to find the right fabric, the right thickness and the right material, variables that considerably complicate the equation in mid-season.
To make your life easier, we have included five of them in our new collection , from the military register to the heights of classic elegance. Color palette, fabric density, raw materials and weaving techniques: we have taken care of each parameter so that each of you can find a shoe that fits you. Or rather, pants that fit your legs.
