This back-to-school season is an opportunity to take stock but above all to project ourselves into a future that we envision with positivity and our heads full of desires. Among them, we wish above all to remain faithful to the founding values of the brand and continue to design high-end, timeless and durable pieces.
To achieve this, we place great importance on the choice of materials when designing our collections. You will have certainly noticed, but we only use 100% natural* or recycled materials, most of which are certified. This quality requirement is further strengthened, with the aim of offering you high-end clothing on a daily basis.
As an introduction to the season, we present the key materials of the autumn-winter collection, natural and eco-responsible, always in the service of the style signed Hast.
Hast: 100% natural materials
Around 50% of the world's clothing is made of polyester. However, at Hast, since the brand was launched, we have only manufactured pieces from 100% natural materials* . Why this choice?
Natural material: definition
Let's start from the beginning. A natural material can be animal or vegetable and is found in the form of fiber in nature. These materials require little or no chemical use and are therefore classified among "eco-responsible textiles" because they are less harmful to the environment. Some plant fibers even have the particularity of growing in Europe, this is the case of linen. Among the natural materials most used in fashion, we find cotton (regular and organic), linen or wool.
Conversely, synthetic materials are entirely chemically manufactured from coal or oil. Among these, we can cite nylon, polyester, acrylic, elastane (also called lycra) or polypropylene. Less expensive, with adaptable properties, these materials are nevertheless very polluting and of lower quality.
Quality & Eco-responsibility
In addition to their ecological virtues, natural materials also have the advantage of increasing the durability, appearance and style of the garment, in terms of colour rendering for example. Sébastien, stylist at Hast, explains: “Summer and winter, colour is very important. The fact that we only use natural materials for our collections allows us to have a range of very beautiful, varied and deep colours .”
Furthermore, if natural materials had been neglected in the textile industry in recent years due to their cost, they are coming back to the forefront, to now replace them. This is particularly the case for merino wool, which we are using this fall-winter season for our shirts, jackets and pants as well as our knitwear. We use it a lot for its breathable, thermoregulating qualities while ensuring comfort and style.
More than a choice, the fact of favoring natural materials is a reflection of our commitments and our desire to always offer you high-end pieces, designed with respect for people and the planet.
The material that pollutes the least is that which already exists
In the textile industry today, less than 20% of materials are recycled. However, recycling is a fundamental principle of the circular economy and one of the most ecological recovery techniques available.
As a fashion brand, we are taking full measure of our power to act, by increasingly turning to recycling in order to limit our environmental impact. While there are still few choices in recycled materials, this fall, the collection is expanding with pieces made from recycled materials - like our must-have winter crew neck sweater in recycled wool.
Wool recycling comes from the mechanical recycling of existing wool clothing but also from production scraps within the spinning mills themselves: the wool is first carefully sorted by composition, by color then shredded; the fibers are then mixed to create the desired color rather than using dye, then spun and woven again. Finally, a slight addition of so-called “virgin”, new material can be made in order to lengthen the fibers and provide robustness and guarantee spinning and weaving during manufacturing.
Natural materials are the easiest to recycle and can be easily transformed into new fabrics when they are single-material or mixed (linen and cotton for example), because they are easier to “defiber”. But far from being a miracle solution, recycling 100% natural materials can impact the durability of the piece. This is why, instead of using 100% recycled wool for our work jacket of the season, we had to add a part of recycled polyester, itself from recycled plastic bottles and disused fishing nets. The material is thus reinforced and you will wear our jacket for longer!
Our environmental certifications
Hast commitments also include some figures:
100% of our fabrics come from Europe
25% of our shirts are GOTS cotton certified, a label that guarantees cotton from organic farming and which guarantees an ecological and socially responsible production method.
100% of our recycled wool sweaters are knitted in GRS certified wool.
We are convinced that as a brand, we must offer another way of producing, more sustainable. Sustainability that involves a meticulous choice of materials and reasoned production processes. We regularly check the quality of our products and have established a real relationship of trust with our European suppliers.
Behind the label of our clothes are actually our thoughts and commitments towards responsible fashion. Our goal is to offer you a wardrobe of high-end clothing, made from high-quality natural or recycled materials - but without ever compromising on style.
We invite you to discover the new collection !
*with the exception of our swimwear for which there is not yet a real alternative to nylon, but this is compensated by a very long lifespan.
